The Big Trip - in both senses of the word!

This page under construction - beware, dropping bits!

The points below will become links to other pages as I get time to write them.  Not easy when you're on the road constantly, I can assure you!  The trip was supposed to last for up to twelve months, but six is more than enough.  Even after six weeks, one comes to long for the simple things in life... like knowing where you'll be sleeping tonight.  Knowing there is a clean bed and shower nearby.  Knowing where you can eat without spending days regretting it.  You know, the simple things!

I'm carrying a digital camera and can put up pictures of the sights I've seen if requested.

Most of the flights in the trip were via the OneWorld alliance (in opposition to the Star Alliance).  This includes British Airways, Canadian, Cathay Pacific, and American Airlines.  I can recommend all but the American; I've flown on worse... though I can't recall which airline it was.  The price was compelling for a start: the journey is based on zones, in which you're allowed a certain number of sectors, as long as the trip is 365 days or less.  Value plus. Visit the  OneWorld site  for a peek.

One tip for visitors to the USA: if you're planning to navigate around the country by road, hit the search engines and get a good price on a Garmin GPS III+ before you leave.  I got mine at Rand McNally in the Ala Moana Centre in Honolulu, who were happy to price-match the excellent price I'd found that morning, $US369 :)   The GPS III+ is about the size of a remote control, but sits on your dash and tells you within about 10m (30ft) where you are.  It has a built-in map of most of the roads in the USA (but, alas, not outside).  There are "Mapsource" CDs you can buy relatively cheaply for other areas, and for further detail in the USA.  This little gadget probably saved me several days of driving around at random; it's almost impossible to get lost with it, when all you have to do is find a road, and then keep the car pointed in the right direction until the road is under the pointer.  Highly recommended, exceptional value.  Link to  Garmin site

I've seen some amazing sights along the way, that I'll remember for a long time.  I've also seen and experienced a few things that I wish I could forget... my luck deserted me before I even got off the ground.  Stay tuned for the story, film at 11.  I've got over 30 hours of digital video to download and edit :)
